The Brama Zuraw (or the Great Cane as it is known to visitors) is one of Gdansk’s oldest port cranes as well as a notable city landmark. Dating back from 1367, the first crane was burnt down in a fire and restored in 1442. During World War II, the crane was destroyed once again as a result of the war but was quickly rebuilt soon after and transferred to the Polish Maritime Museum. Today, the Zuraw is used to organize exhibitions connected with Gdansk port life. Visitors can also enter the lifting mechanism, although they can’t operate it, due to safety concerns.
Located on Szeroka Street, it is open from daily from 10:30am to 6:30pm with admission starting at 8 zloty for adults and 5 zloty for children and college students.
