Tourist Guide Gniezno
Gniezno is one of the oldest cities of Poland. Located in the centre of the Gniezno Lakeland and in the Greater Poland Voivodship, the lakes of Winiary, Jelonek and Swietokrzyskie are present in the heart of the city. The city was the original capital of Poland and is called the ‘cradle of Poland and Christianity’.
The international airport is 50 km away from Gniezno in the city of Poznan. Good rail connections exist between the city and the capital Warsaw.
The climate in the region is temperate, with the temperatures in January hovering around –1°C. During the rest of the year, it gets progressively warmer and the temperature averages at 30°C.
Gniezno has a population of more than 70,000 people. Apart from playing an important social and cultural role in Poland, the city is an important food-processing centre.
