The Wieliczka Salt Mine is located within the city metropolitan area. It produced table salt since 13th century. At present, it is considered as the oldest operating salt mines in the world. This place has been in operation since 900 years and is also the most profitable industrial establishments during the medieval times. There is a sanatorium for those who are suffering from allergy or asthma and is situated 135 meters deep underground.
