No need to buy that ticket to Cairo from Warsaw (as herds of Poles do year round) and do yourself a favor and stay close to home and check out Poznan’s Archeological Museum instead. The museum contains a collection of 42,000 rare and mystifying objects that chart life in Ancient Egypt and prehistoric Poland (yup, it’s history even goes back that far). The first part of the museum takes you back through the earliest settlements in the region through the Older Stone Age to the Iron Age. There’s also a permanent exhibit on the Death and Life in Ancient Egypt featuring 120 rare pieces from the era. It’s also one of the most modern, colorful and interesting museums in the city.
The Archeological Museum is located on ul. Wodna and is open daily from 10:00am to 4:00pm and cosed on Mondays. Admission is 8 zloty for adults and 4 zloty for children with audio guides available in English for an additional 5 zloty per person. Guided tours are available by prior arrangement.
