Those who are well educated in the ABC’s of Polish beer will recognize Warta as the name of Poznan’s drink of choice, but little does one know that it’s also a neighborhood and river that runs through this modern Polish city.
The river is actually a tributary of the larger Oder (Odra, if you speak Polish) river and runs almost 808 kilometers making it the country’s third longest river (the basin area is also 54,529 square kilometers). With a starting point in Upper Silesia near Zawiercie, the Warta river flows through several different Polish cities including Lodz and Lubusz along with Poznan before emptying near the town of Kostrzyn nad Odra.
The Warta neighborhood meanwhile is also a clean and safe district of the city (which has picked up in recent years) and is home to several grocery stores, shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes.
