If you are looking to take a break from Sopot’s pulsating nightlife and want to take in a little history and culture during your stay, you’re in luck. The Sopot Museum is housed in a magnificent 20th century villa, tracing the city’s history through such exhibits as the “Illustrated Stroll around Ancient Sopot” with early guides, folders, maps, and photographs.
The museum first opened its doors in 2001 and has wonderful art collections and old furnishings on display. The villa, which was built in 1903 by the Sopot architect Walter Schulz for Gdansk merchant Ernst August Claaszen, is surrounded by a wide park which is also a great attraction in an old, well preserved forest stand with many different species.
The museum is located about half a mile from the city center on ul. Poniatowskiego Street. It is open Tuesdays through Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.
