While visiting Zakopane and checking out all of its distinct architecture, you almost want to ask yourself, “What did Stanislaw Witkiewicz not build here?” The Jaszczurowka Chapel is one of Witkiewicz’s wooden jewels in the Polish highlands. Also locally known as the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Chapel, it was built between the years of 1904 and 1907 and is one of the architectural highlights in the region.
Inside the interior there are stained glass windows that represent both Polish and Lithuanian national emblems. (Also of note is the fact that the wooden construction of the chapel was built without nails.) If you want to stop in for a visit, the chapel is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm, with a regular mass schedule on Sundays. Guided tours are available.
