Albufeira: Attractions and more...
Although the region is famous for its beaches, it has much more to offer tourists. From Largo Duarte Pacheco (the main town square), you can head to the Church of São Sebastião with its Manueline doorway. Also worth a visit are the Rua Bernardino clock tower (with its prominent iron bell) and the Museu Arqueológico with its Neolithic and Roman era artefacts. The young at heart can head to the Zoomarine, which is situated at Guia 8 km north of the town, and watch dolphins and seals entertain the crowd.
Albufeira also has an exciting nightlife; make your way to The Strip, a chain of bars, nightclubs and restaurants which remain open till early hours of the morning. La Bamba and Mustang are two of the popular ones.
Guests interested in Portuguese seafood can satisfy their appetite with fresh fish cooked in traditional metal vessels. Tasty Lagosta (Lobster) and Sapateira (crabs) are also hot favourites here.
