Things to Do in Évora: attractions to See in Évora

Évora: Attractions and more...

A rich smorgasbord of history awaits those who enter the Moorish walls of Evora. With its combination of Roman, Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, it is a treasure house of historical ambience. Visit the third-century ruins of the Roman temple with its mystifying Corinthian columns; also visit the popular Museu de Evora, located in the old Episcopal Palace.

The Cathedral is one of the first places to visit. Completed as early as the thirteenth century, it contains the Sacred Art Museum. The St. Franciso Church is a must-see because it has a chapel totally adorned with human bones. Explore the Palace of Vasco Da Gama, which housed the legendary explorer, and also the Counts of Basto Palace, which has been home to many kings.

Don’t forget to step into a local restaurant and sample the migas (bread soups with fried pork), acorda de marisco (shellfish), the tasty Gaspacho soup along with Nisa and Evora cheeses.
