Things to Do in Faro: attractions to See in Faro

Faro: Attractions and more...

One of Faro’s main attractions is the eighteenth-century Episcopal Palace with its unique tile decoration and pyramid-shaped roofs.  The Santo Lenho Chapel has a spectacular collection of relics and carvings lining its walls. Football fans usually flock to the Estadio Algarve, a 30,000-seat stadium which had hosted the Euro 2004.

The Naval Museum has a fleet of model boats and galleons that will impress any marine buff.  Photograph yourself under the centuries-old Vila Adentro arch and the Carmo (or Carmel) Church which has twin bell towers and a religious sanctuary.

Also visit the golden Church of Nossa Senhora Do Carmo, famed for its chapel which is adorned with the bones of more than a thousand monks and has exquisite gold-leaf designs.

Off the harbour, you can find the Cidade Velha (or old city) with its beautiful walking areas with quaint cafes. A bit further is the Ria Formosa lagoon which attracts hundreds of migratory birds every year.
