Faro is a charming, walled city located in the south of Portugal. Apart from being the capital of the Faro district, it is also the capital of the picturesque tourist region of Algarve. Faro is considered to be the gateway into Portugal because of the Faro International Airport, which is located about 7 km west of the main city. There are also sufficient bus services and train routes to other cities.
Due to its location in the south, Faro mostly experiences a Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and sunny with temperatures reaching approximately 35°C, more than enough for a summer tan or a taste of the Portuguese sun. Winter temperatures seldom go below 0°C.
Faro has more than 50,000 people residing within its Moorish walls. Its colonial architecture along with a spread of beaches makes it a popular tourist destination.
