Old Town Faro is known as Cidade Velha and is compact. It is enclosed by old town walls and is situated within a walking distance of any station. Some parts of the old town dates back to Roman times and the best way to visit are to enter the Arco da Vila Town Gate. There are also Largo da Se Square and the cathedral at the hearth of the old town. There is also Bishops Palace and a former 16th century cobevet which at present houses the Museo Arquelogico.
