The name’Fatima’ has been derived from an Arabic name ‘Fatima’. One of the unconfirmed legends states that the name of the city has been derived from Moorish princess called ‘Fatima’; who had eventually been converted in to Catholism and had also been baptized prior to having married Count of Ourem in the year 1158.
Religious tourism is the thing on which Fatima’s economy relies. Loads of believers stretching from ‘far and wide’ flock to this place; especially on ‘pilgrimage days’.
