Tourist Guide Lagos
Lagos can be described as city as well as municipality located at mouth of river Bensafrim. It also lies along Atlantic Ocean; in Algarve, Southern Portugal.
Lagos is approximately situate at the distance of 35 Km on the eastern side of Sagres Point, i.e. Europe’s south-westernmost point. On the northern side lies road towards ‘Silves’; i.e. Algarve’s 1st capital that has loads of tourist attractions.
Lagos is known as an old maritime town which can boast of history of around 2000 years.
The name ‘Lagos’ has Celtic origin. Moreover, it has been derived from word ‘Lacobriga’. At first, Lagos went on to become settlement of Carthaginians. They were the ones who recruited tribesmen of Celtic origin in war of theirs against Romans. Thereafter, a Roman colony was established. As such, it became a portion of Lusitania, a Roman province.
Lagos is now a Portuguese settlement.
Population has been estimated to be 27041.
