Belem Tower
Belem Tower was built in the year 1515 as a fortress in order to guard the Lisbon’s harbor entrance. This tower was also the initial point for several of the voyages of discovery. Belem Tower is known as the Portugal’s Age of Discovery monument and serves as a symbol of the country. It is also a World Heritage monument as listed by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
