The Padrão dos Descobrimentos is a monument that was built on the north bank of the Tagus River in 1960 to celebrate the Portuguese who took part in the Age of Exploration of the 15th and 16th centuries. This is a monument which has 52 meter high slab of concrete, which is carved into the prow of a ship shape. Originally it was built with perishable materials, but was rebuilt in 1960 in concrete.
