The Archeology National Museum is situated in the west wing of the Jeronimos Monastery in the Belèm district and is open from 10 to 6 on a daily basis except on Mondays and Tuesday mornings.
The museum was founded in 1893 by the well known archeologist Josè Leite de Vasconcelos.
This archeological museum has a number of displays from all over the place including archaic gold work from excavation sites featuring rings, Celtic earrings and beautifully worked bracelets, Visigothic jewelry from the Iron Age, ornaments and mosaics from the Roman era, an Egyptian division of funerary art and 8th century Moorish artifacts.
The permanent exhibitions consists of a collection of Portuguese treasures and Egyptian antiques while the temporary exhibits cover a range of subjects and are held from time to time.
At the entrance of the museum there are 2 granite statues of the Lusitanian Warriors brought from the north of Portugal and which date back to the 1st century AD
