The museum of the Azulejos is one of the best in Lisbon.


The Museum National Azulejo is situated in one of the most beautiful monuments of Lisbon, namely the Madre de Deus Convent and is open from 2 to 6 on Tuesday and 10 to 6 from Wednesday to Sunday.

This national museum represents the entire country through its Azulejo or decorative tile display which is used all over the country in the cathedrals, palaces, gardens, markets, railway stations as well as squares.

Get to know how the azulejo is prepared at the museum along with its various uses over the last five centuries. This being one of the best forms of Portuguese plastic art is widely used for decoration in the country along with carvings.

There are over seven thousand pieces of tile collections found at the museum which is the largest in the museum, as compared to ceramics, tools and other images. One can take a walk inside the museum and observe the huge interior of the chapel built in Baroque style filled with massive paintings framed in gold.
