Lisbon Oceanarium, located at the Parque das Nacoes, is the largest aquarium in Europe.
It houses 25,000 mammals, fish and birds, in a two-storey fish tank. The whole oceanarium is an impressive building and the exterior of the top floor offers pleasant views of the harbour.
The interior is extremely impressive and consists of 30 tanks that can hold about 7 million litres of water. The central tank consists of about 450 different species of fish including stingrays, sharks and many others.
It is also fun to watch the Manta Rays gliding effortlessly along through the tank. The surrounding tanks display selected habitat that form an important part of our eco-system.
The purpose of oceanarium is to provide educational information about fish and animal life. Visitors can also see otters and penguins in an area where their natural habitat has been recreated.
