Alfama is the oldest district of the city and is close to the Tagus. This neighborhood was also unscathed by many earthquakes. This neighborhood is a must see as it is considered one of the most cherished jewels in Portugal. Alfama’s streets are slim and also hilly. They are flanked with restaurants and bars and one can get to hear traditional “fado” music.
