The Praça do comercio is situated near the Tagus River and is translated as 'Commerce Square' in English. This square is also known as Terreiro do Paco. It was the location of the Pacos da Riberia until it was destroyed by a major earthquake in 1755. After the natural calamity, it was remodeled as part of the Pombaline Downtown, as per the orders of Marquis of Pombal.
