Portimão: Attractions and more...
With its rich Portuguese tradition and historical attractions, Portimão is waiting to embrace tourists with open arms. One of the most popular places to visit is the famed Praia da Rocha beach, which is 2 km south of the town. This resort, with its rock formations and sandstone cliffs, makes for a splendid way to relax in the Portuguese sun. The boat marina, with its long line of parked yachts and traditional boats, is a must-visit when you’re at the Praia da Rocha.
There are many old monuments that tourists can visit, such as the fourteenth century Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the popular Armação de Pera fortress with its adjacent beach, the intricately-designed Chapel of Sao Jose and the nearby Caroeiro village with its independent villas perfect for a holiday stay. The Municipal Museum regularly houses art and history exhibitions.
