Area of Setubal on the whole comes out to be 172 sq. Km.
Municipality of ‘Setubal’ has been composed of eight parishes. Moreover, it’s seat of ‘district of Setubal’; that too, on Peninsula de Setubal’s subregion. This city stands on Sado river estuary’s northern bank, at an approximate distance of 40 Km on the southern side of Lisbon, i.e. capital of Portugal.
15th of September is observed as ‘Municipal Holiday’. It goes on to mark the date of the year ‘1860’ when King Pedro V of Portugal went on to recognize Setubal in the form of a city.
In the early 20th century, the above-mentioned Portuguese city was one of the most important centers with regards to fishing. Unfortunately, none of the factories that had been created at that time are in to operation today. Even though industrial life has gone to the rocks, tourism is being perceived as huge opportunity in the years to come; as Arrabida Natural Park goes on to offer gorgeous beaches; and ‘unspoilt nature’.
