Tourist Guide Sines
Once a little fishing town, Sines has grown since early 1970s to be one of the biggest ports and industrial centers in the country, home to Industry Park and oil refinery. This costal municipality in Setubal District is famous as the birthplace of Vasco da Gama, who discovered the sea route to India in 1497-98. His house, reconstructed as a museum, is an interesting sight to explore. The city is worth visiting for its attractive beaches, especially Santo Andre that adjourns the Lagoa de Santo Andre. Sines hosts the FMM Sines, Festival Musicas do Mundo, a world musical event held every summer bringing millions of musicians and enthusiasts from all continents.
