Sintra’s palaces and museums have enthralled many a visitor who has entered its domain.
Two of the most famous are the Quinta da Regaleira, which has been given the status of a World Heritage Site because of its intricate designs, and the Palacio da Pena, which is a beautiful blend of different architectural styles spanning ages.
The town’s beach culture is evident at the Praia das Macas and Praia Grande beaches, which attract tourists and locals all year round and even host international surfing competitions.
For those with a penchant for good Portuguese sweets, try the Travesseiro (a warm fruit filled dish) or the Queijadinha da Sintra (a small and soft cheese tart).
Make sure you don’t leave Sintra without visiting the breathtaking Cabo da Roca, which is 18 km from Sintra and is the most westerly point in Europe. The views of the sea and the souvenirs from the cafe cum gift shop will leave you with unforgettable memories of the place.
