Viana do Castelo is a sunny city in Norte, Portugal. It is the capital of the Viana do Castelo district. Situated at the feet of the Monte de Santa Luzia and at the mouth of the Lima River, the town is an important harbour on the Atlantic coast.
The region has a typical maritime temperate climate, varying according to the altitude and terrain. Typically, temperatures don’t drop below 6°C in winter. In summer, 25°C is considered normal. If you need a tan under the inviting Portuguese sun, then the summer months are the best time to visit Viana do Castelo.
The city’s population is estimated to be more than 90,000 people. Although it is predominantly a fishing town, the tourism industry is fast developing as more and more tourists visit for the beaches and the inviting landscape of the city.
