The Aurel Vlaicu or Bucharest International Airport lies in the Băneasa district of Bucharest city. Hence, it is also known as Băneasa airport.
Till the year 1968, this was the only airport in Bucharest. This airport is the hub for European low cost air carriers.
These include Blue Air, Sky Europe, Germanwings, Wizz Air and easyJet. It is one of the world's oldest airports.
The city of Bucharest is located at just 8 km from the Bucharest airport. The RATB buses 335 and 131 connect the important spots in the city with the airport.
Apart from that, tourists can travel with the RATB tramway to reach the airport. Airport Express 783 is the shuttle between the airport and vital destinations in Bucharest and which operate at high frequencies.
Bucharest Metro is yet another convenient and regular mode of transport. The airport facilities include ATMs, food kiosks, car rental, currency exchange, and duty- free shops.
