The Bolshoi Theatre is the national theatre of Russia and is situated in the city of Moscow. This is a historic theatre designed by architect Joseph Bove, and has performances of opera and ballet. The Bolshoi Ballet and Opera are amongst the oldest and even the greatest ballet and opera companies in the world. Founded in 1776 by Michael Maddox and Prince Peter Urusov, it acquired the Petrovka Theatre in 1780 and began production of operas and plays.
