Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia is an art gallery and museum.
The museum has its roots in the two hundred paintings purchased by Catherine the Great, which started the famed collection. Collections from all over the world were called for to start the gallery which then consisted of Greek, Roman and Egyptian artefacts.
Exhibiting around three million works of art relating to human history and culture, the Hermitage Museum has six magnificent buildings which house assorted jewellery, paintings, imperial relics and the largest collection of ancient gold.
The artists featured here are the likes of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh, Picasso and many more.
The Winter Palace completes the ensemble of the Hermitage. Apart from the brilliant decoration that it adorns, the splendour of the architecture is enthralling.Web Site: http://www.hermitagemuseum.org/
