The State Russian Museum is known as the largest depository of the Russian fine arts in the city of St. Petersburg. It was established in 1895, upon enthronement of Nicholas II for commemorating his father, Alexander III. The original collections of the museum were composed with artworks which were taken from the Alexander Palace, the Heritage Museum and the Imperial Academy of Arts. The main building of this museum is the Mikhailovsky Palace.
