Pavlovsk Palace is located near Saint Petersburg, Russia. The palace and the large English garden surrounding it are now a Russian state museum and public park. The construction of this palace began in 1781. The Great Palace at Pavlovsk is somewhat staid in comparison to its near neighbor at Tsarskoe Selo, forgoing that building's opulent ornamentation for classical elegance and harmony, painted in the deep yellow and white color scheme typical of St. Petersburg neo-classicism. Inside, the Palace is considerably more ornate, with state rooms designed by some of St. Petersburg's most famous architects that make a significant contribution to one of the Imperial palaces.
