The Mariinsky Theatre is a world renowned theatre and was known as the Ballet theatre and Kirov Opera during the Soviet times. It was reverted to its present name in 1992. The present building where the theatre is located dates back to 1859 and the building housed another theater. However, it was remodeled and this theatre came into existence.
