San Marino city shares the same name as its country, the Most Serene Republic of San Marino. The country is completely surrounded by Italy and is considered the fifth smallest sovereign nation in the world, and the third smallest in Europe. It is accessible by air from the nearest Italian city of Rimini. The city is also surrounded by a wall.
The climate is perfect for tourists all year long. Warm summers and mild winters are characteristic of the typical Mediterranean climate prevalent in the area.
The city has a population of just 4,500 people. Tourism contributes to nearly 50% of the economy. Wine and cheese are some of the main agricultural products. Due to space constraints in the tiny capital, most of the businesses are based in the adjacent municipality of Borgo Maggorie.
