Subotica is a province and municipality of north Serbia and is situated in the region of Vojvodina. It is second largest city of Vojvodina, bearing a population of 99,981 people as per the 2002 census. The city is the administrative centre of the North Backa District. The name Subotica is a Hungarian word, derived from the adjective of the same word szabad. During 1740’s the city was renamed after Maria Theresa of Austria. The municipality of Subotica includes the entire city, the Palic town and 17 villages. The city is blessed with renowned faculties like the Civil Engineering faculty, the Economics faculty, the Electro-Mechanic-Programming faculty, the Kindergarten Teacher Training College and the Teachers faculty. Subotica has a well-structured educational system, including a university and other reputed schools and faculties. Most viewable religions in Sabotica are Roman Catholic, Protestants and Orthodox.
