Subotica’s historic theatre, constructed in 1854 is the first monumental public building of the city. This historic monument was knocked down in 2007. This memorial building in 1983 was announced as a historic monument under the state protection. During 1991, the National Register added this building as a memorial exhibiting amazing cultural value. One international campaign was also conducted to save this historic monument. The scanty ruins of the shattered building are integrated into a new theatre.Subotica is blessed with a number of traditional buildings and monuments. The buildings depict the outstanding beauty of the ancient time’s architecture. The city’s popular visiting places are Zsolnay fountain, the City Library, Statue of Emperor Jovan Nenad, Library in Subotica and the famous old theatre.
