With its winding streets and coffee houses as well as street side hawkers selling every possible item known to man, Pristina is a fine city with ancient linkages. It has some important historical attractions to visit.
The Fatih Mosque, which dates back to the fifteenth century, is an Ottoman-designed structure with a striking dome and minaret. Also, in close proximity to the Mosque is Prishtina Museum, which has ancient relics and contains information on the city’s long past. Gracanica Monastery is a fine fourteenth century example of Serbian architecture with a magnificent display of frescos.
In Pristina, a popular pastime of the locals is to sit, eat and drink. Join a group of Albanian teenagers sitting at one of the city’s uncountable coffee shops and sip some strong Albanian coffee, or just sample the Birra e Pejes, the national beer.
When in Pristine, don’t forget to make a day trip to Prizen, a city of spectacular mosques and monasteries.
