Old Town - Attractions in Bratislava

The narrow lanes and beautiful houses and palaces add to the historic charm of the Old Town of Bratislava.

The Palace of the Hungarian Estates, the gothic building of the Academia Istropolitana, adds to the beauty of the Old Town.

It is charming in summer when the atmosphere totally changes as many restaurants and bars offer outdoor seating and one can spend the night sipping a drink in this great atmosphere.

The construction of the Old Town can be traced to the 15th century. It was reconstructed in renaissance style in 1599.

Many different styles of architecture, from the gothic to the baroque, are on display here with various houses and buildings lining the narrow streets.

The Municipal Museum is one of the oldest museums in Bratislava; it was founded in 1868 and is located in the Old Town.

There is also a cannon ball displaying signs of the attacks by Napoleonic Troops in 1809.

At the corner of the Old Town Hall Tower you can see the statue of the Madonna of 1676. Many official decrees and decisions were declared from the balcony of the tower in former times.
