The district of Pieštany is rich in natural beauty, and many wildlife
reserves have been created to protect this area’s diversity. These include
the Sínava area, where a water reservoir acts as a nesting ground for
waterfowl and other bird species, and the natural reserve of Lancarský
Dubník, where many rare plants are found.
The town itself is home to a number of cultural landmarks, such as the ruin
of the Order of St John of Jerusalem cloister, a structure dating from the 2nd
half of the 14th century, and the Spa Houses of Napoleon I, II and III on Spa
Island, built between 1822 and 1862. Another significant structure in Pieštany
is the Colonnade Bridge, a pedestrian bridge spanning the river Váh,
built between 1930 and 1932 to connect the town with Spa Island.
Throughout the main summer tourist season, live concerts are held in the music
pavilion, while the pedestrian zone is graced with a variety of classy cafes
and restaurants. The most important museum in Pieštany is the Museum of
Balneology, which displays the history of the spas through exhibits in the former
headquarters of the Slovak Health Spa Inc and the Villa Liska and Ivan Krasko
Memorial Room.
