The most popular specialities are dumplings known as štruklji which can be prepared in 70 different ways with sweet fillings, meat or vegetables. Another speciality is the potica, a type of nut roll prepared with the widest variety of fillings. Kraški pršut (air-dried ham) and gibanica (a heavy pastry of poppy seeds, walnuts, apples, raisins or cheese and topped with cream) are also popular dishes. The cvicek wine and the red karstteran wine are popular drinks.
