There are no major health risks in Slovenia. Immunisation against hepatitis A and B, diphtheria and tuberculosis is advisable. There is a risk of tick-borne encephalitis in forested areas; campers should prevent tick bites by wearing long trousers. Vaccination against typhoid and rabies is also recommended. If bitten, medical advice should not be delayed. Meat and poultry, water and milk are considered safe for consumption.

Those holding UK passports are entitled to free hospital and other medical treatments and some free dental treatment.

Slovenia is one of the safest countries in Europe, but travellers must maintain caution. Petty crimes like theft have been reported; travellers must avoid carrying valuables. Rapes have been reported in Tivoli Park in Ljubljana; it is not advisable to visit the park after dark. Discotheques and crowded bars are other places where travellers should be careful as the crowds can get a bit aggressive.
