National Gallery of Slovenia is situated on 24 Presernova, SI-1000, Ljubljana near the Tivoli Park and is open from 10 to 6 daily except on Mondays, while admission is free on Saturdays after 2.
The museum was founded in 1918 and is the main museum in Slovenia which consists of the largest visual art collection from the medieval period to the early twentieth century.
These permanent art collections from the middle ages to the early twenty century consists of notable European and Slovene artists which are kept in the galleries. In 2001 a large transparent glass gallery was built to connect the two wings of the museum building.
This airy structure with a glass portico faces the Tivoli Park and can be used for functions and occasions.
One of the most important displays in the museum was the Gotska plastika na Slovenskem in 1973 which showcased the artistic position of the Slovene province from the middle ages.
