Among the many towns in the regions of Slovenia, Novo Mesto ranks as the eleventh. It covers the areas along the crook of the Krka River. This town is recognised as the economic and the cultural hub of Lower Carniola. Novo Mesto came into existence in the year 1365, and was named during the Habsburg Archduke Rudolf IV of Austria. Several settlements were found in this area in pre historic times. After the World War 1, and the termination of Austria and Hungary, the town came to be known as Novo Mesto. Slovenia is a part of the European Union. Tourism is increasing in Slovenia and Nova Mesto is also benefiting by this. The Krka valley is becoming famous for its wines. Tours through the lower parts of Carniola is done by the tourist to this region. The capital church of St.Nicholas is among the renowned attractions here. Novo Mesto has become the spot city for the Romans where it holds the famous Archdiocese.
