Piran: Attractions and more...
The town has preserved the medieval layout with narrow streets and compact houses, which rise in steps from the coastal lowland into the hills and give the whole area a typical Mediterranean look.
EVENT
In Piran, a town with rich traditions, including tourist ones, closely related
to the sea, the end of the second week in July brings a colourful group of dancers
together at the Mediterranean International Folklore Festival from countries
along the most popular sea for summer holidays – the Mediterranean.
Besides the local folklore group and at least one group from Slovenia, three
to four guest groups are presented at the festival. This year dancers from Malta
and Portugal will participate, as well as groups from our neighbours, Italy
and Croatia.
The festival includes a presentation of folklore tradition, dances, songs, music
and national costumes of Mediterranean countries, taking place in Tartini Square
in Piran and Auditorium Portorose, as well as a folklore workshop for all the
participants and an organised visit of Slovenian Istria's cultural attractions.
With the rich cultural heritage of the participating countries, the originality
of the music and the variety of traditional national costumes, this festival
is exceptionally attractive for visitors.
