The port city of Algeciras is located in the south of Spain, near Gibraltar. The name of the city is derived from the Arabic word for ‘island’.

Algeciras has a population of approximately 105,000 people. This port city also has an ancient history and rich culture. It was originally founded by the ancient Romans and later occupied by the Moors. Although it is now a bustling modern-day port, facets of its history can still be glimpsed in the quaint architecture of the buildings in the San Isidro Quarter.
