The city of Bilbao lies in the northern part of Spain in the Basque region. It is the capital of the province of Biscay.
Bilbao is situated on the banks of the river Nervión and surrounded by lush green hills and sandy beaches. It has a mild oceanic climate with temperatures rarely going below –1ºC in winters and above 35ºC in summers.
The city has a population of approximately 350,000. Bilbao also has a long and ancient history and culture that dates back to the fourteenth century when it was founded by Don Diego Lopez de Haro V, the Lord of Biscay. The official languages that are spoken here are Euskera and Spanish.
