Toledo is a province of Central Spain and is situated to the west side of the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha. This province is bordered by the provinces of Cuenca, Madrid, Caceres, Avila, Badajoz and Ciudad Real. This province was the capital of Spain until 1560.
As per the 2002 census bureau, the population was estimated as 546,538 people. Out of this, nine percent of the population lives in Toledo, the capital of Castilla-La Mancha.
Toledo has 204 municipalities overall and has Illan de Vacas as the smallest municipality in Spain with a population of eight people. This municipality is situated in Toledo.
Toledo is considered as one of the significant centers of European Medieval history. It is believed that the first settler was a Roman author, Titus Livius, who described this as a small fortificated town. There are many historical buildings to see whilst in Toledo.
