There are a number of caves in the Atapuerca Mountains where numerous fossils and stone tools have been found of the earlier Hominians who lived here. This archaeological site has been included in the World Heritage site in the year 2000. There are rock paintings, ceramic remains and remains of animals and humans found in the caves. The most popular site here is the pit of bones or the ‘Sima de los Huesos’.
