Madrid is the capital of and the largest city in Spain. It is located on the river Manzanares in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula.
In spite of being a major metropolis, Madrid retains some remarkably unspoiled and diverse habitats and landscapes. It is home to mountain peaks and lush green plains. The city has a temperate Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. In winters, temperatures may drop below 0°C, and in summers, they may sometimes reach as high as 40°C.
Madrid has a population of approximately 3,300,000 people. The inhabitants of Madrid are called Madrileños. The city is very cosmopolitan, and in addition to Spaniards, it also has many immigrants from Latin America, Europe, Asia, North Africa and West Africa. Madrid is well known for its many cultural related attractions and monuments.
