Inaugurated in 1966, the Vicente Calderon Stadium is the home stadium of Atletico Madrid Football club. Situated in the heart of Madrid by the River Manzanares banks, it was originally called as Estadio Manzanares. Later on, it got changed to Vicente Calderon after the popular Atletico club president. This Stadium holds international matches of the Spanish National Team, and has capacity of 54,851 seats. In 2003, it was given the UEFA5 Star stadium rating. The Stadium is even used as a concert venue, where there are numerous events and concerts by acts like U2 and EBD. The first match played here was between Atletico-Valencia by 1-1.
