The Retiro Park was created as a royal park and is a part of the Real Sitio del Buen Retiro Palace. The most remarkable feature of the park is one of the statues, El Angel Caido, which is dedicated to Satan, which is possibly the only such statue in Europe. Situated to the east side of the city center, the main entrance to the park is near the Alcala Gate, at the Plaza de la Independence.
